Shabbir stays in pole position

Tamil Nadu put on a good show as defending champion Shabbir Dhankot and former National champion Sabeena Saleem topped the table in the men’s and women’s categories respectively in the 24th National tenpin bowling championship at the Orion Mall here on Tuesday.

Dhankot finished on top of the table at the end of round one comprising twelve games with a total pinfall of 2446 at an average score of 203.83. Shabbir, who bowled his second block of six games on medium oil conditions, scored 1199 (174, 234, 230, 182, 201, 178) after scoring 1247 pinfalls in his first block of six games played on Monday night.

National elite squad member Dhruv Sarda from Delhi is in second place with 2359 points from twelve games and trails Dhankot by 87 pins, while Tamil Nadu’s Yusuf Shabbir is in third with 2270 pinfalls overall.

In the women’s category, Sabeena moved ahead of Karnataka’s Aishwarya Rao by 34 pins after posting an overall pinfall of 2225.
Defending champion Prathima Hegde of Karnataka, who is bowling with an injured finger, is at third with 2125 pinfalls.
