Domestic air traffic down 7% in Nov

In line with the slowdown, the domestic air passenger traffic in November 2012 was down 7 per cent at 50.20 lakh, compared to the same month last year when 54.14 lakh passengers flew, according to a Union Civil Aviation release.

The number was higher compared to October 2012 when 45.55 lakh passengers travelled. The market share of carriers did not witness any significant change in November, with IndiGo leading by 27.3 per cent, followed by Jet Airways (including JetLite) 25.2 per cent. Public sector carrier Air India’s share was 20.7 per cent.

During January to November 2012, 534.14 lakh passengers travelled 16.19 lakh less than January-November 2011.

The passenger traffic was on a decline since May 2012 and was at its lowest in September 2012 at 40.20 lakh but recovered in October.
