Fire at biscuit factory

Last Updated 19 December 2012, 19:47 IST

A fire broke out at a biscuit factory in Kumbalgod on the outskirts of the city. The fire started at the biscuit godown and laboratory wing of the factory at around 10 am, factory sources said.

As soon as the fire broke out, all the workers in the factory rushed out of the building. Soon, 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire in an operation that lasted two hours, but not before the fire spread to the production wing.

Hampagol, Technical Director, Fire and Emergency Services, told Deccan Herald that none was injured in the fire accident. He said the exact reason for the fire was yet to be ascertained. But, it could most probably be due to an electrical short circuit.

Tension prevailed in the area, as the factory management tried to prevent the media from covering the accident. A minor scuffle ensued between the factory management and mediapersons and the firemen had to intervene to bring about normalcy.
