A 14- year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself at her house near Maruthi Circle, Srinagar, on Wednesday evening.

She was identified as R Sonu, a class VIII student of St Holy School. Her father Ravi, a police head constable, works in the City Traffic Training Institute.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sonu and her mother had been to her grandparents’ house. Sonu, a classical dance student, left her grandparents’ house in the evening after informing her mother that she was going for the Bharatanatyam classes.

However, her mother got a call from the dance school that Sonu had not turned up for the class.

Sonu’s mother rushed to her Srinagar house to check on her only daughter.

She found that the main door was locked from inside and Sonu did not answer her calls.
When she peeped through the window, she was shocked to find Sonu’s body hanging from the ceiling fan in the bedroom, the police said.

She informed her husband Ravi, who rushed home and informed the police.

The police broke open the door, lowered the body and shifted it to KIMS for autopsy.
The Hanumanth Nagar police, who have registered a case, said that they were yet to ascertain the reason for the suicide.

The girl has not left any note, they added. The family is in a state of shock and also at a loss to guess the possible reasons for her extreme act.

Driver ends life

In another incident, a debt-ridden autorickshaw driver committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Chikkavenkatappa Layout near Dodda Bommasandra on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Hanumanth Rao, 38. He had raised loans to buy a new autorickshaw and was unable to repay them. This might have pushed him to suicide, family sources said.

The suicide came to light Tuesday night when his wife, who works at a printing press, returned home from work. Vidyaranyapura police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.

The body was handed over to the family after autopsy at M S Ramaiah Hospital, the police said.
