Some miscreants allegedly placed a damaged statue of a Nandi at a construction site in an effort to create chaos at K R Puram in the city recently.

Works are underway for construction of a hospital by a reputed doctor near Ayyappaswamy temple over the past few months. Construction workers came as usual on Wednesday morning, but they were unaware of the dramatic events to unfold.

According to sources, the construction workers did not notice the statue amid construction materials.

Only when district unit president of Sri Rama Sene Hemanth Kumar arrived on the spot and questioned some of the workers as to why they had placed the statue there, that they came to know about the statue.

Hemanth Kumar and his associates claimed that the statue would have been found while digging earth and there were possibilities of a temple beneath and demanded excavation of the place and suspension of construction work.

They even performed puja to the Nandi. The doctor informed the police about incident. Police arrived on the spot along with tahsildar Manjunath. The tahsildar took the statue into his custody while the police brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, MLA H S Prakash alleged that the whole episode would be handiwork of some vested interests to extort money. Speaking to media persons, Prakash said the doctor had received a phone call some 15 days ago demanding Rs two lakh. “The discussion has been recorded in the mobile phone,” he claimed.
