Wife killer held

A man has been arrested on charges of murdering his wife in south police limits on Saturday.

Sakamma (25) wife of Halaiah, Srinivasapura, Keelanapura in the taluk, is the deceased. The couple had married seven months ago. Halaiah was allegedly torturing his wife daily for trivial reasons. On Friday, Halaiah and others in the house had set Sakamma afire after dousing her with kerosene.

Following a complaint, Halaiah was arrested on Saturday, said SP R Dileep in a release.

Rescued from flesh trade

A police team raided a lodge in Nanjangud on Sunday and rescued 11 women, who had been forced into flesh trade and booked six others for the illegal activity.

A release from the office of SP stated that the accused, including four customers, pimp and manager of the lodge, have been arrested and 15 cellphones, Rs 25,000 in cash and two cars have been seized.

The women have been shifted to Shakthidhama, a rehabilitation centre for women in Mysore. The team was led by district crime information bureau (DCIB) inspector Ashok Kumar, the release adds.
