A Delhi Police constable injured in Sunday’s clash with protesters remains critical and is on ventilator in the ICU, battling for life on Monday. The protesters stepped over him several time after he fell during clampdown at India Gate.

Subhash Chand Tomar had lost consciousness when protesters assaulted him. He was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after he suffered cardiac arrest.

“The condition of his heart is the main cause of worry. But there is nothing we can do at the moment as he has been given ventilatory support. He is critical,” said Dr T S Sidhu, medical superintendent of the hospital.

Tomar, who joined Delhi Police in 1987, was posted with Karwal Nagar police station and was deployed on law and order duty in New Delhi.

Doctors at RML also said they treated nearly 150 protesters with bruises and cuts but none of them needed an admission though a few required stitches.

35 molestation calls from India Gate

Students and activists protesting at India Gate on Sunday demanding better security for women were unaware that there were molesters among them. The Delhi Police control room received 42 calls of molestation in last 24 hours acrosss the Capital, of which 35 calls were made from India Gate, reports DHNS.

“We received maximum number of call from India Gate and we sent police control room vans wherever the calls have been reported from, and in most cases they were genuine. We have registered complaints and investigating into the matter,” said a police officer.

Women faced lot of problems due to hooligans present at India Gate as they disrupted their peaceful protest. “There were miscreants at India Gate. We came to fight for justice for the gang rape victim but did not know that hooligans will come and create problems. One of my friends too faced a similar situation and left the protest,” said Numa Kumari, a HR manager at private company.
