Woman held for assaulting daughter

Last Updated 24 December 2012, 20:13 IST

The Vidyaranyapura police have arrested Lakashmi, the owner of a beauty parlour, for allegedly assaulting her daughter.

Laskhmi, mother of a son and a daughter aged about 12 years, parted ways with her husband and married another.

The children were studying in a school in Matthikere where she stayed before shifting to Vidyaranyapura. She prevented the children from going to school after she moved to Vidyaranyapura, the police said.

Lakshmi was furious when she came to know that her daughter stole money from her wallet to purchase imitation ornaments. She kept the girl under house arrest and assaulted her, the police added.

Every day, she would lock the house before going to work.

Alerted by neighbours

A few neighbours noticed it and alerted the members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), who rescued the girl and lodged a complaint with the police.

The girl alleged that her mother neglected her after her second marriage. She said she didn’t steal money and refused to go with her mother. Lakshmi said she punished her daughter only to discipline her and wanted her back.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) S N Siddaramappa said the police would produce the girl before the Child Welfare Committee members on Friday.
