Bangalore has its fair share of Bollywood fans, who love listening to the upbeat tunes from Hindi films. And Taal Se Taal Mila - 3, a performance by 7Sur that was held at ADA Rangamandira recently, was meant for exactly these sort of people.

There was quite a selection of film songs which were performed — while some were virtually unheard of, others were old enough to be labelled forgotten tunes.

Some of the artistes who were showcased included Lakshmikant Pyarelal, R D Burman, Shankar Jaikishan, Madan Mohan, A R Rahman, Himesh Reshammiya, Nadeem Shravan and C Ramachandran.

Songs like Jahan Mein Jaati Hoon, Kitna Pyaara Wada, Ek Do Teen Aaja Mausam, Aiyayya Suku Suku, Aasman Se Aaya Farishta, Jhumka Gira Re, Shaayad Meri Shaadi Ka, Haaye Re Haay, Tumse Milne Ki Tamanna, Mausam Mastana, Mere Naseeb Mein Tu Hai and Eena Meena Deeka were rendered to perfection during the programme and accompanied by instruments like the keyboards, congos, tabla, lead and bass guitars, and the
octapad. The singers kept the numbers pretty similar to their originals.

Ekta Shah, one of the lead singers in the show, says, “Since this show is our main event in the year, we start preparing almost three months in advance. We carefully handpick the songs, selecting them based on several parameters — which is a very challenging process. This show is our seventh so far and is very important to us since it’s the completion of the cycle, implying the significance of the seven surs.”

“To find songs that are not mainstream and to bring them to the forefront is hard. And we try just that with songs like O Manchali Kahan Chali and Odhni Odh Ke Naachun that have been heard, but forgotten,” adds Aniket Prabhu, a technical risk analyst who is also part of the team.
