'Tejodiya 2012' on December 29

The GT Foundation will felicitate senior musicologist Gopalakrishna Iyer and Indian entrepreneur Sarathbabu Elumalai, as a part of ‘Tejodiya 2012’ to be held at Town Hall in Mangalore, said G T Foundation Managing Trustee V Ravichandran addressing presspersons on Wednesday.

He said that the senior musician will be honored for his contributions towards popularising Carnatic Classical Music in South Canara. Vidwan Gopalkrishna Iyer is a nonagenarian musician who established Kalanikethana School of music in Mangalore with several music scholars, which is devoted to the teaching of classical music. Ravichandran said that Sarathbabu Elumalai has been recognised for honor by the foundation towards his social work and philanthrophic activities.

Having Engineering and MBA degrees, Elumalai started as a micro businessman establishing a  food catering service which has now been developed into a great venture ‘Food King Catering Services Private Ltd’ which caters food to many banks, software companies and schools and has provided employment to many illiterate and semi-illiterate people. The achievement has fetched Sarathbabu many awards including the CNN –IBN Young Indian Leader Award.

The felicitation programme will be at 5 pm, Manipal University former Vice Chancellor Dr B M Hegde, Indian Overseas Bank Chairman and MD M Narendra, Corporation Bank Chairman and MD Ajai Kumar will participate, Ravichandran said.

The falicitation programme will be followed by a flute recital by Gopalakrishna Iyar and Classical Dance performance by Dr Vasundhara Doreswamy. There will also be fusion music by Ankush Nayak and troupe in the beginning of the programme, he said.

GT Foundation’s new trust by name Karuna Kirana Trust is serving for social causes, said Karuna Kirana Managing trustee Dr Shrinivas Kakkillaya. He said that the foundation will serve the patients in Lady Goschen Maternity Hospital, who need emergency medical treatment, funded by the foundation. The motto of this project is to save mother and child by providing them the necessary care, Kakkillaya said. He told that another similar programme has been planned by the trust to eradicate malnourishment of children dwelling in slum areas.
