Bangalore’s unbeaten campaign in the South Zone Inter University Cricket Tourney came to an end as the defending champion Jain University crashed them out of the tourney with a huge 142-run victory.

Electing to bat first, Jain varsity scored a decent total of 262 in their allotted 50 over before getting all out. Samarth Ravikumar, who represented the State in Under-19 and Under-22 age category matches, scored a well knock of 65. Mangalorean Nihal Ullal also contributed to the Jain score card with his swashbuckling 31.

In reply, the “famous” Bangalore bating line –up couldn’t do justice to their earlier performances in the tournament. Bangalore opener Arjun Hoysala, who scored 2 centuries from 3 matches including an unbeaten 213, failed in repeating the same, as the right hander gave an easy catch at short thirdman.

All the Bangalore batsmen marched back to pavelion in 43.5 overs, scoring just 120 runs, 143 runs short of the target. At one point, Bangalore were struggling at 48 runs for 7 wickets. Yousuf Aziz, added to Bangalore score card with 37 runs. Jain speedster Bhavesh Gunecha scalped 3 wickets .

With Jain’s victory over Bangalore, the semi line up of the tourney remains unchanged from that of last year. Jain University will take Andhra University, Hyderabad and University of Madras will fight against JNTU, Hyderabad, for the final spots at Manipal on Saturday.
