Last Updated 28 December 2012, 19:27 IST

It has now been discovered that Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa’s family purchased property even outside the State.

Eshwarappa’s son K E Kanthesh bought 17.5 acre of land in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan and documents related to the property are now in possession of the Lokayukta police. The documents were found when Lokayukta police, earlier this week, raided properties of Eshwarappa and his family.

Searches were conducted at eight places in Bangalore and Shimoga as part of its investigation based on a complaint that Eshwarappa, his son Kanthesh and daughter-in-law Shalini had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

According to sources, Kanthesh had entered into a partnership with one Jayadev of Bydagi taluk to purchase the land in Jaisalmer. The property, purchased at a cost of Rs 38 lakh, was registered in January 20, 2012. It has been cited in the sale deed that the property purchased is agricultural land and was bought from Mangala Shubham Granite Limited. Lokayukta police are now investigating whether the purchased land is a granite quarry.

Sources in the Lokayukta police said a team, if required, would be sent to Jaisalmer for verification.

The team could gather further information by contacting the local administration and the also the Mines and Geology department of Rajasthan. Sources added the Lokayukta police has been receiving tip-offs about properties belonging to Eshwarappa in other places including Bangalore, Mysore and Doddaballapura.
