Karnataka to include Narayana Guru's teachings in syllabus

Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today said steps will be taken to include the teachings of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru in the education syllabus in the state.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the 80th pilgrimage congregation at Sivagiri Math here established by the social reformer, Shettar said Karnataka government would follow the model of Kerala by introducing Guru's teachings in education curriculam.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy while speaking at the inauguration of the congregation the other day had announced that Guru's teachings would be included in the education curriculam from next academic year.


Shettar said youngsters should learn the principles and values preached by Narayana Guru who fought to uplift backward communities in the society.

Shettar also said that Karnataka government would take steps to provide a land for setting up a memorial for Narayana Guru at Bangalore.
