AFSPA extended for six months in Tripura

The state level coordination committee on security issues had recently got a clearance from the state cabinet to extend the implementation of the Act after citing that though insurgency had declined considerably, the AFSPA should continue for another six months in the existing 40 police station areas as a precautionary measure, the official said.

Regional parties of the North Eastern region including those of Tripura like Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura have been demanding withdrawal of AFSPA on the plea that the Act provided ample powers to the security forces to arrest and heckle people in the name of searching for the insurgents.
