Agra shivers at 1.1 degrees, fog hits traffic

The Agra region continued to reel under bitterly cold conditions, with mercury falling to a mere 1.1 degrees Celsius Sunday, said weather officials here.

Farah in Mathura district recorded a temperature at the freezing point of zero degree Celsius.

Thick fog affected traffic on the Yamuna Expressway and roads to the Taj Mahal here. Trains too were running hours behind schedule. The Pavan Hans helicopter service to Vrindavan remained suspended.

Two people have died due to intense cold in Achnera and Basai Arela areas of Agra, police said.

In Etah district, 11 people have so far died due to the cold, they said.
The Agra district magistrate has extended the winter vacation in schools to Jan 12.
