KSRTC staff protest; commuters in soup

Passengers stranded in Hassan for more than two hours

Commuters at new bus stand at Hassan had to feel the heat of mass protest staged by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) staff condemning attack on two conductors in separate incidents.

Staff in large numbers mainly conductors and drivers participated in the protest due to which plying of buses was at standstill for more than two hours, landing passengers in soup from 2 pm to 4 pm.

The demonstration started with a rally from divisional unit located at BM road till deputy commissioner’s office and the protestors formed a human chain at N R circle.
Incidents

A youth of Shankaranahalli was watching obscene clips in the bus travelling from Hassan to Shettyhalli. Following complaints by other passengers, the conductor objected him to continue watching it. The youth who raised no opposition to conductor’s instructions, attacked the conductor along with his friends and family when the bus arrived at Shankaranahalli. Conductor Yogesh was severely injured and is undergoing treatment at district government hospital.

In another similar incident, conductor Harish was assaulted by unknown gang at Genigere, Hassan taluk.

Agitated protestor alleged that police have failed to take action and arrest the accused even though complaints have been lodged.

They urged necessary protection to conductors and drivers and demanded punishment for the culprits.

President of KSRTC Workers’ Association Shivanna Gowda, general secretary G T Range Gowda, Devaraj, Ganesh, Anand, Rangaswamy and others participated. They submitted memorandum to DC.
