'Lok Adalat helps amicable settlement of disputes'

Settlement of disputes through compromise at Lok Adalats ensures benefit for both the parties, Principal Civil Judge S Mahesh has said.

“There is no question of victory or defeat at Lok Adalats. The matter is settled by way of compromise between both the parties. It will benefit either sides,” the judge said. He was speaking after inaugurating a legal literacy camp.

“Lok Adalats help litigants settle disputes amicably without spending time and money. He suggested public not to approach courts or police stations for trivial matters and instead settle such differences through mediation.” He said the compromise arrived the Lok Adalats cannot be questioned in any court of law in the country.

Advocate K Yogananda spoke on Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and Dr Vijaya, president of Soundarya Urban and Rural Development Association spoke on trafficking of women and children.

The programme was organised jointly by Taluk Legal Services Committee, Bar Association and Soundarya Urban and Rural Development Association. Additional Civil Judge Vijay Devaraj Urs, Bar Association president M Papireddy, Assistant Public Prosecutor E D Srinivas and others were present.
