Need for a strong regional party: Champa

Last Updated 13 January 2013, 18:37 IST

Everyone who wears a green shawl is not pro-farmer. BJP has proved it by taking oath in the name of farmers and not doing anything for the welfare of farmers, said writer and former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Chandrashekhar Patil.

“Only the family members come to power in national parties and regional leaders of that party act as just rubber stamps. So, there is need to strengthen regional parties,” he said.

He was speaking at the valedictory programme of the district-level study camp organised by the Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene at Nenamanahalli in Kolar on Sunday.

‘High command rules’

“Congress leaders themselves cannot meet Sonia Gandhi easily. BJP does not have a national point of view. Leaders in every state are forced to act according to wishes of the high command. In this situation, it is not possible to get solution for problems of people at regional level,” he said.

The only solution is to strengthen regional parties. There are strong opinions that farmers, minorities and people from poor economic backgrounds should come together and form party,” he said.

Speaking about regional parties, he said that people are expressing disappointment over attitude and
aptitude of Kumaraswamy of JD(S) and Yeddyurappa of Karnataka Janata Party.
It is the right time people should decide on their regional leader, he added.

‘Increasing gap’

In the current situation, farmers, daily wage workers are not happy, nor are people from city living in happiness. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening, Patil added.

There is need for a regional party which can erase the gap and change present situation, he said.
Organic farmer N R Chandrashekhar, Abbani Shivappa and others were present on the occasion.
