Three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in stealing and encashing two cheques worth Rs 75,000 from a firm where one of the accused worked, police said on Tuesday.

Amit Malhotra, Avinash Khurana and a juvenile were arrested on a complaint by Sachin Goel, director of Tenon and Groove Software Pvt Ltd at Rani Bagh in north-west Delhi, police said.

In his complaint, Goel alleged that two cheques of his company were stolen and withdrawals of Rs 40,000 and Rs 35,000 had been made from Citibank’s Punjabi Bagh branch account of the company.

From the CCTV footage of the bank, police came to know that a man had come to the branch to encash the cheques. With this clue, police suspected the involvement of an employee of the company.

“On surveillance, the activities of Amit Malhotra, employed in the company six months back, appeared suspicious. On scrutinising his computer, few documents of the company carrying signature of Goyal without any logical reason were found scanned,” a police official said.

Amit confessed his involvement and revealed that his distant nephew who is a juvenile and Avinash Khurana got these cheques realised from the bank. Later, the juvenile and Khurana were also arrested.
