16 more BJP men appointed to boards

Last Updated 16 January 2013, 17:50 IST

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday made appointments to 16 boards and corporations accommodating senior party workers ahead of the Assembly polls.

Independent MLC M D Lakshminaryana has been removed as chairperson of Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation. He had openly identified himself with Karnataka Janata Party of B S Yeddyurappa.

The appointments come three weeks after 19 party loyalists were accommodated in various boards and corporations. Sources said a few legislators could be appointed to some plum boards and corporations next week. The move is seen as ploy to keep legislators from deserting the party and joining KJP. As many as 30 chairpersons of various boards and corporations, who had identified with Yeddyurappa, were shown the door last month.

The government has not fixed term for the chairpersons. Usually the appointment will co-terminate with that of the chief minister. The State is likely to go to polls before the end of May this year.
