 A farmer attempted to end life in the presence of officials who had come to take possession of an encroached government land in Madinayakanahalli village of the taluk on Tuesday.

According to police, the district administration has come up with a plan to construct a road between Kanganallu and Madinayakanahalli villages and had instructed to clear the land of encroachment.

Refusal to clear

Tahsildar Mangala and other officials visited Madinayakanahalli and were engaged in clearing the encroachment when Narayanaswamy, who refused to clear the encroachment, consumed poison.

He was immediately rushed to the government hospital.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the tahsildar, Betamangala police arrested Narayanaswamy and later released him on bail.

Booked for assault

The Anderson Pet police have registered a case against a person for obstructing police in discharging their duty.

Sudhakar, a resident of Krishagiri Lane had parked his two-wheeler impeding movement of vehicles on Bazaar Road of Anderson Pet.

Traffic police constable Ramesh asked him to remove the vehicle. Sudhakar, however, refused to do so, abused the cop and assaulted him, police said.
