No parking inside Lalbagh during this year's flower show

Visitors to the Republic Day flower show at Lalbagh cannot park their vehicles inside the garden this year.

Speaking to Deccan Herald K G Jagadeesh, Director of Horticulture said: “In the past schoolchildren were put to trouble, as they were forced to walk a long distance to reach their schools, owing to traffic jams created during the flower show. We shall allow only school buses to be parked inside the garden this year.”

In the past, parking of vehicles was allowed at two gates—on K H Road and Siddapura Road. “This year, however, the High Court of Karnataka has banned us from allowing parking at the Siddapura Gate,” he said.

Officers of the department of Horticulture noted that parking was not allowed at the Lalbagh Gate on K H Road as it caused traffic jams. People can park their vehicles at Shanti Nagar TTMC and people coming through JC Road can park their vehicles at the BBMP multi-storey parking lot.

“Only as many as 100 vehicles can be parked inside the Lalbagh. Without realising this, every year visitors line up in front of the gates creating traffic jams,” said an officer with the department of Horticulture.

Not allowing parking at the two gates will allow easy movement of visitors and cause no difficulty to schoolchildren, he said.
