In a release, G R Shanmugappa , president of FKSLOAA, said it is highly condemnable that the transporters have become the target of the government’s red eye, despite crores of rupees being donated by the common people, industry and other organisations to the CM’s flood relief fund.

The Karnataka Goods Transporters Association has also opposed the tax and called the introduction of toll highly deplorable.

However, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa has appealed to the truck owners to cooperate with the State government regarding the proposed levy of toll on trucks carrying iron ore, granite, sand and wood.

In an appeal to the truck owners, the CM said trucks carrying iron ore, granite, sand and wood were causing huge damages to roads leading to accidents. The government took the decision to levy toll to mobilise resources to maintain roads. He also clarified that the proposed levy was in no way connected with the proposed additional taxes to cope up with relief works in flood-hit areas.
