Speaking after the ground-breaking ceremony for various development work taken up at a cost of Rs eight crore in Somwarpet on Monday, he said that the people of Kodagu appreciate the good work.

The work on PWD and rural roads will be completed by March 31. The work on Konanoor-Makutta road is being taken up at a cost of Rs 64 crore. Roads in Somwarpet and Virajpet taluks will be developed.

The Cabinet has approved a medical college for the district and a garden at Harangi. Why the previous governments failed to carry out good work in the district? he asked.

District-in-Charge Minister M P Appachu Ranjan said “we will not allow encroachment of the government land by the rich. Many poor and labourers have settled down in two to three cents land. Those poor who have settled down on the government land will be given title deeds. They will not be evicted at any cost.”

The BJP-led State government had released over Rs 1,100 crore for development work in the district in the last four and half years.

A hi-tech market was inaugurated on the occasion.
Town Panchayat President S N Murthy, former MLC S G Medappa and others were present.
