Workshop on NREGS in all villages

Addressing the workshop on NREGS held at Koppa on Thursday, he said that it is precisely due to lack of awareness among the people that the scheme could not do well in the region.

He told the Gram Panchayats that they should provide work within 15 days to those who send application for unskilled works and in case the Gram Panchayats fails to provide works, it will have to provide unemployment allowance to such people.

“The registered members who have not been given works within 15 days of registration are entitled to get 1/4th of the minmum wage for the first 30 days and half of the minimum wage after 30 days as unemployment allowance,” he said.

Water conservation, rain water harvesting, forestry, minor irrigation, irrigation canal construction, horticulture on the land of BPL families, development of land, dredging and various other works can be taken up by people who have job cards.

The workshop was inaugurated by Taluk Panchayat President Seethamma. TP Member B S Sathish, Taluk Bar Association President B S Naveen Rao and others were present.
