Congested locality, but life thrives in Gauripet

Life thrives in congested roads at the busy commercial area in Gauripet, one of the oldest layouts at ward no 10. Gauripet includes MG Road, a major commercial centre of the city, highways and also many narrow roads.

In spite of narrow and congested roads, it is the economy that many business centres here contribute, make the layout, a popular.

The layout, compared to others, is better placed with many concrete roads and street taps. But what is astonishing is many of the concretised roads are not used by the public at all. Besides, the layout has good number of streetlights but they are disfunctional.

Most of the roads in Gauripet were muddy stretches till the last year. But they have suddenly been made concrete roads. But too many humps in the stretch causes severe inconvenience to the road users. But main roads in the locality are still dilapidated and cry for attention.  

People in the locality are quite fortunate, when compared to other wards, as there is good water supply. “Water is supplied once in five days and we really have no problem, as there are good number of street taps,” said homemaker Mala.

Besides, borewells sunk in the locality are still in good condition and one can see people making a beeline to collect water from it, when there is no regular water from the CMC. But it is only the disfunctional streetlights that need immediate attention in the ward. “In spite of repeated complaints, the authorities concerned have not repaired the streetlights. We fear to come out of the houses after dark,” said residents here.

Lack of streetlight from behind the Gandhi Bhavan to SNR District Hospital has resulted in accidents in the stretch. Besides, contingency road in 5th Cross which is hardly used by the public is concretised, which the residents feel, is waste of money.
