Double murder: 13-member nomads gang arrested

Accused hail from Pakshirajapura in Hunsur taluk

After a month-long investigation, district police have succeeded in cracking the double murder case that had occurred at a farm house on the outskirts, arresting a gang of 13 dacoits, all nomads, on Monday night.

Venkatesh (70), a retired engineer of water resources department and his wife Kamakshamma (63) were found murdered at their farm house at Kallur Naganahalli in Yelwal on January 5.

The couple were the residents of Vijayanagar in the city.

The police had formed a team headed by Dy SP (Mysore rural) T Siddappa. On Monday night, the investigators came across seven persons near a petrol bunk on Yelwal- Hunsur main road.

When quizzed, they revealed their plans for dacoity helping police foil a dacoity bid. When interrogated further, the gang of seven revealed that they along with two others had hacked an elderly couple to death at their farm house in Yelwal one month ago.

They had robbed the victims of their 130 grams of gold valuables and Rs 5,000 in cash.
Acting on their information, police arrested six others including five women who had helped them.

The four women diguised as artificial flower sellers had tipped of the gang about the farm house and its aged occupants.

In all 13 have been arrested and their involvement in various cases; murder, extortion and robber have come to light registered in Selam at Tamil Nadu, and Chitradurga, Belgaum, Hassan, Tumkur in Karnataka and Kadapa, Nellur, Yaragundla and Ananthpur districts in Andhra Pradesh have come light.

Accused

The accused are identified as; Manja alias Manjunath, 25 years, Hakki Pikki tribe and Indra,20, Hakki Pikki of Pakshirajapura in Hunsur taluk, Mysore district, Kadal Rama, 19, Pindande tribe, Shankarapura hamlet, Hunsur, Bandoos Bandu, Hakki Pikki, Chikkamatti, Shimoga district, Munna, 25, Hakki Pikki, Pakshirajapura, Deepak, 25, Hakki Pikki, Reeta wife of Esgundu, 35 years, Shankarapura, Hunsur, Kavya wife of Bandoos, 25, Hakki Pikki, Meena wife of Munna, 20 years, Hakki Pikki, Jayashri wife of Venkatesh, 21 years, Mani wife of Ravi, Laal Saab, 60 years, Ravi Laal Saab, 70 years, Pindande tribe and Venkatesh, 70 years, Pindande tribe, Shankarapura tribe, Hunsur taluk, Mysore district.

Another accused in the case remains at large. Of the 13 accused, 11 are remanded in judicial custody, while two are in police custody for further interrogation.

SP R Dileep has congratulated the police team consisting of district crime investigation bureau (DCIB), T Ashok Kumar, consisting of SIs M C Ravikumar and Shashikumar of DCIB, Jeevan of Yelwal among others.
