A male deer, trying to cross the road at Ramachandrapur Forest area was struck and killed by a bus in Malur on Monday.

The five-year-old animal was run over by a State Road Transport bus at 11 am. Residents tried to rescue the buck and attempted to render first aid. The animal failed to respond to the treatment and died later.

Rajanna of  Veterinary Department, L R Subbarao, Nagaraj, Narayanaswamy, Beerappa and Chinnegowda of the Forest Department visited and inspected the site of the accident.

The forest area is host to a three km stretch of road of the Malur-Bangalore main road. Deer crossings are  a common sight here. Several of the animals have been killed in the past by vehicles along the stretch. Forest officials said that at least three to four deer are killed in an accident every month.

Residents have urged that action be taken to reduce the deaths. At least a hoarding or notice should be put up along the road to warn motorists of the danger, said Ramachandrapur residents.
