Drought: Cong attacks govt

Last Updated 05 February 2013, 18:53 IST

As many as 157 out of 176 taluks in Karnataka are in the grip of a drought for the last two years because of scanty rainfall. Rivers have gone dry, tanks have become empty, groundwater has depleted and there is no water even to supply through tankers.

According to Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah, the government must immediately sanction Rs two crore for each taluk to tackle water shortage. But how money can help when all sources of water have dried up was a question not answered by him or by any other Opposition member in the Assembly on Tuesday.

They were, however, vocal in their criticism of the government for not doing enough to tackle the drought and offer succour to the people.
