Orissa under pro-BJD spell

In 4 Lok Sabha seats, margin of party nominees crossed two lakh votes

The party candidates defeated their nearest rivals by a margin of more than one lakh votes in another four Lok Sabha seats. In three parliament constituencies, the BJD candidates trounced their principal opponents by a margin of more than ninety thousand votes while in two other seats the victory margin of party nominees stands at more than fifty thousand votes, a detailed scrutiny of the poll results revealed on Sunday.

In the Bhubaneswar LS seat, three time sitting MP Prasana Patsani defeated his nearest Congress rival Santosh Mohanty by a margin of 2,52,760 votes. Similarly, in coastal Cuttack LS seat, another three time sitting MP Bhatruhari Mehtab, son of former chief minister the late Harekrishna Mehtab, drubbed his Congress rival Bibhuti Mishra by a margin of 2,36,292 votes.

Nityananda Pradhan, the BJD nominee in southern Orissa Aska LS seat, the erstwhile parliament constituency of party chief Patnaik, defeated his nearest Congress rival Ram Chandra Rath by a margin of 2,32,834 votes.

Even a Congress deserter like Pinaki Mishra, a Supreme Court lawyer who had joined the BJD just a few days before the filing of nomination papers emerged victorious in coastal Puri LS seat by a margin of 2,11,305 votes against his former colleague in the Congress, Devendra Mansingh.

In coastal Dhenkanal LS seat, sitting BJD MP, Tathagata Satpathy, son of former chief minister the late Nandini Satpathy, ensured defeat for his nearest Congress rival Chandrasekhar Tripathy by a margin of 1,86,587 votes.

The ruling regional outfit’s other LS candidates who won their seats by a margin of more than one lakh of votes are – Rudra Madhav Ray(Kandhamal), Mohan Jena(Jajpur) and industrialist-turned-politician, Baijayant Panda (Kendrapara).

Three BJD Lok Sabha candidates with ninety thousand plus victory margin are – Kalikesh Singhdeo(Bolangir), Jayaram Pangi(Koraput) and J S Laguri(Keonjhar). Actor-turned-politician Sidhanta Mohapatra (Berhampur) and former union minister Arjun Sethi (Bhadrak) are the two BJD winners whose victory margin exceeded fifty thousand votes.
The only BJD winner in the Lok Sabha elections who could not reach the fifty thousand plus victory margin is Laxman Tudu (Mayurbhanj) who defeated his nearest Jharkhand Mukti Moracha(JMM) rival and sitting MP, Sudam Marandi by a margin of 45,605 votes.
The BJD backed CPI candidates, Bibhu Prasad Tarai(Jagatsinghpur) also won his Parliament seat defeating his nearest Congress rival by a margin of 98,894 votes.
