The PSI examination was held on October 11. Deccan Herald has learnt from reliable sources that the question papers were leaked a day earlier.

After securing the questionnaire a day before the test, the constable, identified as Madhyanayka, sought the help of Chikkamuddaiah, a research scholar of the Kannada Department at Bangalore University, to solve the questions.

Later, Madhyanayka contacted his friend, Hemnayaka, who introduced the former to Chikkamuddaiah. The trio met at the research scholars’ hostel on the Jnanabharathi campus, the sources said.

Madhyanayka introduced himself as a constable from the DGP’s office. Claiming that he had with him a model question paper of the DySP examination, he requested Chikkamuddaiah to solve the questions.

The unsuspecting Chikkamuddaiah provided answers. Chikkamuddaiah came across the question paper of the PSI examination on October 12 and was shocked to find the questions he had solved two days ago in the paper.

Realising that he was taken for a ride, he informed Hemnayaka about the leakage. The same day, an unidentified person called up Chikkamuddaiah from the telephone number 080-25500076, claiming he was speaking from the Vidhan Soudha security office. He threatened to murder the research scholar if he disclosed the sequence of events leading to the leak, sources added.

Chikkamuddaiah went to the Jnanabharathi police station on October 13 to lodge a complaint against the caller but the case was registered only on October 18.
