<p>A plea has been submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sanction the second phase of the Bangalore Metro in the 2013-14 Union budget.<br /><br /></p>.<p>In a memorandum, former member of the Zonal Railway User’s Consultative Committee of Southern & South Western Railways Prakash Mandoth said that the Karnataka government has cleared the proposal for the 72.1 km second phase and has forwarded it to the Union government.<br /><br />Phase-1, with a total length of 42.3 km is due for completion by December 2014. The physical progress achieved so far is about 65 per cent, he said.<br /><br />Noting that the existing mode of public transport has been rendered inadequate, Mandoth said Bangalore, which does not have a mass transport system, needed about 250 km of Metro rail network for the present population.<br /></p>
