Taking a cue from Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpai starrer Special-26, a gang of kidnappers in Patna posed as Special Task Force (STF) personnel and raided the residence of a film distributor at midnight.

Before film trader Amresh Ranjan Sinha could react, they blindfolded him and his son Rahul and put them in a sports utility vehicle waiting for them at Govind Mitra Road. When the members of the family woke up and questioned them, the conmen said they were taking the father and son to the STF office for questioning.

Till then, nobody doubted their credentials as one of the gangsters was in police uniform (with the badge of Bihar police service) while others were in plain clothes.

While taking them to an undisclosed location, the so-called STF men released Amresh on the outskirts of Patna, but took his son along with them. Immediately thereafter, the family received a ransom call from them asking for Rs 6 crore for the safe release of Rahul.

However, the abductors committed one mistake. They constantly used Rahul’s mobile phone to seek ransom amount.

Amresh’s eldest son Roshan lodged a police complaint. Immediately, the Senior SP (SSP) of Patna Amrit Raj formed a special team under the leadership of City SP Jayant Kant to crack the case.

The police traced the cellphone calls and raided Rajiv Nagar locality from where they arrested the six abductors. While Rahul was rescued safely, an amount of Rs 2.5 lakh paid to the kidnappers as advance ransom, was also recovered from the spot.
