Historically Hiremagalur occupies an important place. However, when it comes to the basic infrastructure facilities, it lacks facilities.

The ward has a historical Kodandaramachandra swamy temple which attracts devotees round the year. However, the ward has not seen much development over the years.

There are 500 to 600 houses in the ward. Majority of the residents are either farmers or labourers. About 150 houses does not have toilets. Many depend on open place near Railway station for open defecation. There is no enough space to construct community toilet in the ward. A visit to the ward, one will find lack of cleanliness.

A water spring in the ward was source of water to the residents.
However, now water is supplied from Hirekolale kere and Yagachi dam. The water spring never goes dry even during hardest drought situation, said a resident and added that the authorities have not been maintaining it and the water is polluted.

“We had appealed to the authorities concerned to conserve the water body. However, it was of no use. The authorities have failed to rejuvenate even a historic Pushkarani near Pathaleshwara temple.”

With the UGD work in progress, the CMC has not taken up any work on the development of road. Box drains have been laid on a few roads. The stagnated water in the drains have been posing a danger to the residents. Collection of door-to-door waste is a challenge for the staff of SKDRDP. Majority of the residents dump the waste either in their compound or in the dust bins.

A sum of Rs 94 lakh has been sanctioned to the ward in the last five years. About 16 work have been taken up. The work on anganwadi, community hall, commercial complex have been completed.

The residents said “Ashraya houses have to be constructed for more than 100 beneficiaries. The authorities should give priority to cleaning drains. There is a need to check mosquito menace. The polluted water body should be cleaned.”

(With the announcement of elections to the CMC, the series on ward will be discontinued for the time being.)
