Felicitation Ceremony

Honouring people for their accomplishments, on a personal level and in terms of community service, is quite an encouragement. The Rotary Club of Bangalore Cantonment did just that recently, when it felicitated Miho Sakata Malhan with the ‘International Goodwill and Understanding Award’.

Miho brings together Japanese woman and has formed a creative group, for the exploration of their talents and culture to benefit numerous charitable institutions. “Our group, Muse Creations, has many talented ladies, with four creative teams who are involved in music and arts, paper craft, textile-related craft and cooking. We use these activities to bring awareness and communicate with the underprivileged,” says Miho.

“Our group is about building relations and using them to benefit the world outside. This group has helped to enhance the experiences of the Japanese women, and helped them to taste the Bangalore spirit,” adds Miho. The event also featured Japanese women from Miho’s group, some of whom were dressed in traditional Japanese wear. Others got into the local spirit by draping saris. They sang a few songs to entertain the gathering and showcase a slice of their culture. The soft serenading music left everyone amazed. Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director of Toyota Kirloskar, who was the chief guest at the meeting, says, “Such efforts are definitely praiseworthy. While everyone out there is struggling and trying to make some quick money, Miho has showcased the true spirit of humanity and added to the existing ties between Japan and India.”

An appreciation letter from the consulate of Japan in the City was also read at the event, to congratulate Miho for her work and encouraging her to carry forth the initiative. Club president, D C Shivdev, comments, “We confer this award every year to people who do some service to benefit the society and bring in an international flavour. We shortlist candidates chosen by the committee, and then the award is conferred.”
