Yogeeshwara manhandled

Angry BJP workers on Friday booed Channapatna MLA C P Yogeeshwara and shoved him around when he arrived at the Speaker K G Bopaiah’s office here to submit his letter of resignation from the Assembly membership.

He had resigned as forest minister on Thursday. Several BJP workers, who had gathered near the Speaker’s office in the morning after learning Yogeeshwara – who is all set to join the Congress – would be arriving there, raised slogans against him and pushed him around in the presence of a good number of policemen.

The police, however, ensured that Yogeeshwara boarded his car and left the place safely.
The BJP workers sought to know why Yogeeshwara was quitting the BJP, which had made him a minister.

He enjoyed power and benefits in the BJP and he is now returning to the Congress, they charged.

After submitting his resignation letter to the Speaker, Yogeeshwara told reporters he was disillusioned by the severe infighting in the BJP in the past three years, reason why he was quitting the party.

“After considering the opinion of the people of my constituency and my supporters, I have decided to rejoin the Congress. But I am not sure whether the Congress will give me a ticket to contest the ensuing Assembly elections,” he said.
