The State Congress will celebrate former chief minister S M Krishna completing 50 years in public life by holding a mammoth convention-cum-felicitation function in Bangalore on March 24.

A meeting of Congress leaders to discuss the modalities and arrangements for the convention was held in Bangalore on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President G Parameshwara, Union Minister K H Muniyappa, senior leaders H Vishwanath, D K Shivakumar, H K Patil, T B Jayachandra, Rani Satish, V S Ugrappa among others.

Sunday’s meeting also found a forum for some of Krishna’s loyalists to once again urge their leader to lead the election campaign of the party for the Assembly polls.

Vishwanath is said to have urged Krishna that it was time that he led the party in the Assembly polls. His views were endorsed by former minister Ramalinga Reddy and several others, sources said.

A book recounting Krishna’s five decades in active politics and his contribution to the State would also be brought out on the occasion. Eminent personalities including M N Venkatachalaiah, L S Sheshagiri Rao, S G Siddaramaiah, De Javaregowda have contributed to the book.
