State seeks new rly lines

The State has requested the sanction of several new railway lines including a day train between Bangalore and Mangalore via Mysore and track doubling work on the Bangalore-Mangalore route via Arasikere.

In his letter to Union Minister for Railways, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has requested the sanction of new railway lines from Tumkur-Maddur via Kunigal; Tiptur-Dudda; Mangalore-Gulbarga via Hassan, Arasikere, Chitradurga, Hospet, Bellary and Raichur; Almatti-Koppal via Kudala Sangama; Bijapur-Athani; Bangalore-Shirdi via Tumkur, Davangere, Hubli, Bagalkot and Bijapur, among others.

The State has also requested the transfer of the Mangalore zone from Southern Railway and Gulbarga zone from South Central Railway to South Western Railway.
