In just 24 hours of crime, five persons from Nepal were arrested for killing a 72-year-old man and robbing his valuables in south east Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, police said.

The accused identified as Harish Bahadur Khadait, 19, the kingpin, Navraj, 19, Ranga Khadka, 22, Padam Bahadur Khadka, 28, and Kamal Bahadur Budha, 23, were arrested on Sunday while they were trying to flee to Nepal from Delhi from different locations, said additional commissioner of police (southeast) Ajay Chaudhary.

The officer said Harish Bahadur, who was working as a domestic help at the victim Vijay Sarin’s house, was the main accused and he conspired to kill and rob Sarin.
On Saturday afternoon, police got a theft call at house number D-52 in Lajpat Nagar.

On reaching the house, police team found that the main door of the house was locked and the rear door open. The ground floor was ransacked and Sarin was lying on the floor with his hands and legs tied with a piece of cloth. His mouth was gagged with a duck tape.

The investigators found that his domestic help identified as Harish Bahadur Khadait was missing.

A case of robbery and murder was registered at Lajpat Nagar police station. During investigation, police found that Sarin, a property consultant, was staying alone on ground floor of house on rent. His daughter is married and living with her family in Dwarka.

The police also found that Sarin had not got the antecedents of his servant domestic help verified from the police station.

During investigation, police found that some Harish’s relatives were living at Rohini. A police team rushed to Rohini on Sunday afternoon and Harish Bahadur and his
brother-in-law Ranga Khadka were nabbed before they could flee to Nepal.

During interrogation, both of them admitted to their crime and said three others were also involved. On their insistence, a police team rushed to Anand Vihar bus stop and arrested Navraj, Padam and Kamal.

“All the robbed articles have been recovered from all the five accused persons,” said Chaudhary.

All of them belong to the same area in Nepal and have known to each other and used to work as maid and security guard in Delhi and Ghaziabad. They had conspired to commit robbery at Sarin’s house and brought ropes and duct tape to tie up Sarin. On Saturday, they entered into the house easily as Harish was already there and robbed and killed Sarin.
