The City police have arrested Shyam Prakash, 30, of Bihar when he was attempting to flee the City after allegedly killing his wife's relative on Sunday night.

Shyam Prakash was married to Gayathri from Bihar about a year ago and she continued to stay at her maternal house even after the marriage, the police said. Shyam reportedly got involved in an extramarital affair in the City.

On Sunday night, Umeshram, 30, one of Gayathri's relatives, visited Shyam Prakash's residence at their Lakshmipura Cross Road residence and confronted him on his alleged affair.

The two indulged in a bitter fight, and in a fit of rage,  he allegedly bludgeoned Umeshram to death.

After committing the murder, he attempted to flee the City, but was arrested at Yeshwantpur railway station on Wednesday, the police added.

Umeshram, from East Champaran district of Bihar, was a daily wage worker and resident of Basavalingappa Colony.
