Politics is a big no no for most professionals. But here is a doctor who has jumped into the fray wanting to contest the elections to Mysore City Corporation (MCC).

Dr T S Sujatha Rao a gynaecologist, is the Congress nominee from ward six contesting the elections scheduled on March 7. A graduate from Mysore Medical College (now Mysore Medical College and Research Institute), she holds the MBBS and MD degrees.

Though a novice in the ring, Sujatha however hails from a family with a political background.

Councillor father

Her father T V Sreenivas Rao, councillor for 16 years at City Municipal Corporation (which later became Mysore City Corporation), was with Praja Socialist Party (PSP), before switching over to Congress.

Her brother T S Ravishankar is Mysore District (City) Congress Committee spokesperson. Exuding confidence about her prospects in the polls, Sujatha says that having been groomed in the Congress environment gave her an edge over her rivals.

Campaign

Speaking to Deccan Herald in the midst of her campaigning in Chamundipuram, she said that her medical profession also helped her easily relate to the people, especially women, who at some point have been her patients.

Would she be able to take time off her busy schedule to concentrate on politics? Sujatha says that she is comfortable juggling both careers. She manages to tend to her patients even while campaigning.

Dr CM

Citing the example of veteran doctor B C Roy, she said that he had set an example to professionals like her by actively participating in politics. Roy who started his politics innings as a councillor, went on to becoming the second chief minister of West Bengal.
If elected, she promises to be available to the people round the clock.
