HC rejects Yogeeshwara's bail plea

The High Court on Friday rejected former Minister C P Yogeeshwara’s plea for anticipatory bail in connection with a first information report (FIR) filed against him by Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Union Ministry of Corporate affairs.

Yogeeshwara had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail as well as quashing of the FIR against him. However, Justice K V Keshavanarayana, who heard the matter rejected the bail plea on the grounds that the petitioner had not exhausted his option of approaching the trial court seeking bail.

Stating that the petitioner should have gone to sessions court, the court said that he has approached the High Court by bypassing the lower court. “The petitioner has not placed any special circumstances nor reasons to approach the High Court.

The bench does not find any special or adequate reasons,” Justice Keshavanarayana observed. The court, however, granted him the liberty to approach the sessions court.
