A Delhi Police officer and an Arjuna Award recipient have been accused of beating up staff of a hotel in north-west Delhi for not being allowed to cook their own food. They were allegedly drunk.

Prabhjot Singh, the owner of hotel Royal Mirage at Rishi Nagar in Rani Bagh, claimed that the incident took place when the assistant commissioner of police with third battalion of Delhi Armed Police, Sandeep Dayal, visited the hotel late on Friday.

It is alleged that Arjuna Award recipient Sanjay Pahalwan checked-in at the hotel on Thursday and was visited by Sandeep on Friday.

Prabhjot claimed that Sanjay called hotel staff to his room and ordered raw chicken. Reeking of alcohol, the duo insisted on cooking the chicken themselves.

The staff declined their demand which led to an heated argument.
“A scuffle ensued during which an incensed Sanjay slapped the hotel staff,” a police officer said.

Prabhjot claimed that he interfered after hotel staff informed him. Sandeep warned him of dire consequences and threatened of implicating him in fake criminal cases.

“The hotel staff were beaten up and Prabhjot was abused by the duo,” sources added.
Prabhjot immediately informed police after which local  officials came to the spot. However, they allegedly forced Prabhjot to not file a case. Prabhjot accuses them of spending hours trying to hush up the matter.

With Prabhjot unwilling to take back the complaint, a case was lodged against Sandeep and Sanjay. His statement was recorded with Rani Bagh police station.
They accused face charges under section 323 (causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Prabhjot claimed he has CCTV footage available to prove that the duo were inebriated and beat up hotel staff.

Senior police officers were tight-lipped about the matter and refused to divulge any further details.
