Rajdhani Express AC coaches get a facelift

Last Updated 04 May 2018, 09:43 IST

Zooming off between Mumbai and New Delhi in the Rajdhani Express air-conditioned first class will now be more comfortable -- courtesy upgraded coaches and enhanced facilities introduced by Western Railway, an official said Tuesday.

The railway has provided high-class upholstery and carpets in AC first class coaches with a superior touch and feel, similar to that used in European trains, keeping in mind the premium clientele using the train, a Western Railway spokesperson said.

For climbing to the upper berth, designer wooden ladders have replaced metal ladders. These will make it easier for women and senior citizens to climb up.

The coach illumination has been improved with advanced LED-based lighting for reading and pre-anodized aluminium reflectors for the compartment lighting.

"A more vibrant and pleasing colour scheme has been chosen for the walls. Long lasting anti-graffiti light blue and cream paint has been used to facilitate easy cleaning of the coaches," the spokesperson said.

The Indian style lavatory floors have been redesigned for swift drainage and easy maintenance with large scale use of stainless steel components for added aesthetics appeal.

The upgradation has been carried out by the Western Railway's Lower Parel Workshop in Mumbai and depending on passenger feedback, it plans to upgrade more AC first coaches of Rajdhani Express and August Kranti Rajdhani Express.
