An affair coupled with a financial transaction turned fatal for this woman. The City police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the recent murder of a woman at her house in Basaveshwara Nagar by arresting her paramour.

Renuka, 48, was found murdered on Friday at her rented house in BJLIC Colony near Shankar Mutt, where she lived with her family. The assailant had strangled her with an electric wire, stabbing her throat with a screw driver.

Sources in Police told Deccan Herald that as they screened the incoming and outgoing calls of Renuka's mobile phone, one number figured prominently. She had received frequent calls from him and had made several calls to the same number on the day she was murdered.

Basaveshwara Nagar police arrested Chandrashekharaiah alias Chandru, 37, a resident of Kamakshipalya, based on the call records and during the interrogation he confessed to the beans. Sources said Renuka’s family was staying in a rented house belonging to Chandrashekharaiah’s father Chikkasasalaiah at Kamakshipalya for the last 15 years before moving to Basaveshwara Nagar, a couple of months ago.

Renuka was having an affair with Chandrashekharaiah for the past few years.
However, in November, 2012, this became the bone of contention between Chandrashekharaiah and his wife, leading the former’s mother to force Renuka’s family to vacate the house.

Pawned gold jewellery

Chandrashekharaiah had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 6.5 lakh from Renuka and had even pawned her gold jewellery. He had bought six autos with the money and was giving them out on rent. A week before her murder, Renuka had gone to her in-laws’ house in Kunigal to attend a family function and was supposed to return on March 10. However, she returned to the City midway, giving some lame excuse.

Investigations revealed that Renuka had returned as she wanted her gold jewellery back from Chandrashekharaiah and was supposed to leave for Kunigal on March 2. She called him up and pestered him for the jewels, as she wanted to wear them at the family function.

On the fateful day, Chandrashekharaiah turned up, but didn’t bring Renuka’s jewellery. They apparently fought over the issue and Renuka slapped him. In a fit of rage Chandrashekharaiah killed her, police said.
