A tea vendor received injuries in his throat after a doctor attacked him with a paper cutter at south Delhi’s Hauz Khas on Monday.

Umashankar Lal, 33, who lives with his family at Aya Nagar, underwent treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

Police said Gautam Nagar-resident Ritul Yadav, 30, attacked Umashankar after a heated argument over using a washroom.

“Ritul is preparing for Medical Council of India examination after pursuing MBBS from a college in Russia,” a police officer said.

Umashankar and Sunil run tea stalls outside Ritul’s rented house and at Yusuf Sarai DDA market parking lot.

It is alleged that the brothers regularly used a washroom on the second floor of Ritul’s building, to which Ritul always objected.

“Sunil went to the washroom around 7 am on Monday. Ritul saw him and allegedly initiated an argument,” the officer added.

Sunil then came downstairs and narrated the incident to Umashankar. Soon, Ritul also came down and was involved in a scuffle with the two brothers.

Ritul went back to his room after a while, and Umashankar returned to his Yusuf Sarai tea stall around 8.30 am.

Ritul went to the Yusuf Sarai tea stall around 9.45 am and attacked Umashankar with a paper cutter. He came from behind and attacked him without any warning.
“Umashankar sustained injury on the right side of his throat and was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital by Sunil,” the officer said.

Ritul, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, was arrested on charge of causing grievous hurt over Umashankar’s statement to Hauz Khas police station.
He was produced before a court on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
