NREGs committee members on a indefinite strike

Last Updated 21 October 2009, 18:10 IST

Urging fulfilment of various demands, the members started a indefinite strike in front of the Zilla Panchayat Office in Kolar on Wednesday.

The protesters alleged that they had submitted a memorandum to Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer G V Ranga Rao on October 12 urging him to fulfil various demands and had also threatened to stage indefinite strike if their demands weren’t met. However, the official has turned a nelson’s eye, towards our problems, they added.

The officials should conduct surprise visit to the places where workers have been appointed under NREGs and should check their attendance and jobcards, the protesters suggested. The workers have not been paid their wages since a month by Urigili, Totli, Toradevandhalli, Suguturu and Vadaguru gram panchayats, expressed protesters who demanded action against the officials concerned.

The protesters didn’t pay any heed to requests by ZP CEO Ranga Rao and Deputy Secretary Lakshminarayan to withdraw the protest.

Committee’s T M Venkatesh, V Geeta, Honnenahalli Yalappa, T Krishna Gowda, Gangamma, Susheela, Jayaramu, Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy and Ambreesh took part in the protest.
