Brother-in-law assaults her at knifepoint

 A woman accused her husband’s elder brother of raping her twice at knifepoint after finding her alone at her residence in north east Delhi’s Mansarovar Park. The accused was arrested on Wednesday night, police said.

The 23-year-old victim was married to a resident of Karawal Nagar in June last year. Before the marriage, the victim and her family members were told that the groom had no siblings.

After the wedding, it came to her knowledge that her husband’s elder brother, identified as Saurav Kumar, was lodged in Tihar Jail for some petty crime. He began living with them after being released on bail, police said.

The accused raped her twice at knifepoint during the end of last year while the family was out.

The victim narrated the incident to her husband and mother-in-law who threatened her of dire consequences, saying revealing the incident would put the family’s honour at stake. When the victim’s mother came to meet her at Karawal Nagar this month, she found her daughter to be badly beaten. Shocked, the mother immediately took her away to her own home.

The victim narrated the traumatic incident to her mother on March 4. Her parents approached the local police who refused to take cognizance and file a case in this regard.
They then approached a senior police officer following which a case of rape was immediately registered on the basis of medical reports and the victim’s statement.

“We registered a case and then arrested the accused Saurav on Wednesday night for the heinous crime and sent him to Tihar Jail,” said a senior police officer.
