Trouble at Janaspandana

Last Updated 21 October 2009, 19:48 IST

The trouble started as rumours spread that the MLA and his associates were forcing about 80 people to return documents like possession certificate and khata for the sites formed in 3.17 acre land behind HM Towers near Family Mart.  After the incident, a complaint and a counter complaint were filed in the jurisdictional police station. Some people alleged that MLA and his henchmen overpowered them and others. Some were injured and admitted to hospitals.

MLA Satish Reddy told Deccan Herald : “There is no lung space in the area. A portion of land is reserved for playground and a park. A few wealthy people living in the neighbouring areas have managed to grab prime land. Some of the residents were scared that BBMP might demolish their houses and I visited the place to inform them that is no need to panic. This was mistaken by the others who have illegally occupied the adjoining sites.”

The land was notified in the year 1984 and Sarakki Panchayat allotted 22 sites to the poor and 56 sites others. At the time of allotment, the owners were given all related papers and taxes were also paid for the next three years.  In the meantime, a local organisation, Kannada Mitra Koota, Jarganahalli, made several representations to the DC on the allotment of sites.
