The citizens in the district have decided they want a change in the administration.

Candidates who had projected themselves as possible winners for the municipal elections, and expressed chances of being elected again, were shown what the citizens felt about their work in the last five years.

Even attempts to win by hopping across parties and contesting from different wards this elections did not help them.

Re-elected

In the midst of such extensive disappointment, however, there were a few candidates who did succeed in getting elected again.

B K Srinath (ward 2), A Gajendra (4), A B Manjunath (5), Padmamma (13), S M Rafique (17), Nirmala Prabhu (18), A Jayamma (20) and A C Shobha (26) won again.

Losers and newcomers

N Balakrishna (ward 8), Perikal C M Muniyappa (9), G Munikrishna (12), Ramadevi (14), M V Bhaskar (15), N Shankar Raju (20) and M Prakash (28) lost their seats.

The new entrants into the CMC are B L Keshava Kumar (ward 1), Rathnamma (3), G N Narayanaswamy (6), M Munikrishna (7), P Srinivas (8), K V Manjunath (9), V Subramanyachari (10), V Savithri (11), A N Sindhoor (12), K T Bharathi (14), R Devaraj (15), Nagarathna (16), Ramesh Babu (19), Zabin Taj (21), N Shwetha (22), G Bharathi Devi (23), V Lakshmi (24), C M Srinivas Reddy (25), C J Bharathi Devi (27), Kisan Krishnappa (28), S Leelavathi (29) and R V Ramesh (31).

Ex-chiefs, deputies lose

The greatest hopes had been pinned on the president and the vice-president this elections, but the voter has again turned all plans turtle. The campaigns with sheer confidence of victory led neither candidate anywhere.

M Prakash and M V Bhaskar, the presidents for the last two terms lost the elections.
Prakash had won the last elections as a Congress candidate from ward 25. This time, contesting from ward 28, he lost. Bhaskar, who wished to win again from ward 15, did not see his dream fulfill.

Mohammad Iqbal, who had been the president for the 2003 term, too lost the elections this time.

Vice-presidents of the CMC for various terms Perikal C M Muniyappa, Javid Pasha and Ramadevi too did not get re-elected.

New record

S M Rafique, who won the ward 17 seat, created a record by winning the elections the fifth time consecutively.

He has won twice as Congress candidate and Independent as well as once as JD(S) candidate.

“I have been winning since 1987 and attribute it to the blessings of the Almighty and my parents. I also am grateful to the voters, who are still confident in my performance, and keep voting in my favour. I shall continue to work for the development of the ward,” said Rafique.
